Chopra Plastic Surgery is proud to share some exciting news: Dr. Karan Chopra, Miami's leading board-certified facial plastic surgeon, has been named Assistant Professor on the Scholar Faculty of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University (FIU), effective August 11, 2026.
Dr. Chopra's appointment places him in the Clinical Scholar Track, where he'll teach and mentor FIU medical students, residents, and fellows at both the undergraduate and graduate medical education levels. The role was recommended by the Chair of the Department of Surgical Sciences, approved by the college's Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committee, and signed by the Dean — recognizing Dr. Chopra's standing as both a surgeon and an educator.
For Dr. Chopra, the appointment reflects a philosophy he's carried throughout his career: that great surgery isn't just about mastering technique, but about passing that knowledge on. As he put it:
"Some of the most important people in my career were surgeons and educators who took the time to teach, challenge and mentor me. Advancing surgery is not only about continuing to learn. It is about sharing what we learn with the physicians coming after us."
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine reserves Scholar Faculty positions for physicians whose clinical, teaching, or research contributions support its broader mission of patient care, research, and education. Bringing Dr. Chopra into that role gives FIU's future physicians direct access to someone actively practicing at the leading edge of facial plastic surgery — while his private practice, Chopra Plastic Surgery, continues to operate independently of the university.
It's a fitting next step for a surgeon whose training reads like a who's-who of academic medicine: a medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, an integrated plastic surgery residency at Johns Hopkins, an aesthetic and oculoplastic surgery fellowship under Dr. Mark Codner, and a peripheral nerve surgery fellowship at the Dellon Institutes.
Unlike many plastic surgeons who split their practice across the face, breast, and body, Dr. Chopra has built his entire career around one focus: the face. Every patient at Chopra Plastic Surgery is treated by Dr. Chopra personally, and his approach centers on natural, individualized results rather than a one-size-fits-all technique.
His areas of specialty include:
This singular focus on facial aesthetics has earned Dr. Chopra a reputation as "the surgeon's surgeon" among peers, along with recognitions such as the Miller-Coulson Academy Award for Clinical Excellence and board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
